Spiritual Exercise
The human addiction to various forms of dieting lifestyle and endless workout in the gym in today's world, is often fuelled by the notion that living such healthy lifestyle is a must for anyone seeking to prolong the effect of ageing and increase his or her chances of living longer. Whilst I am totally all for living a healthy lifestyle, the question however is, what is the point of having fleshy 'six packs' when the spirit man, which is the real being is actually dead and decomposed in sin. If we all agree that living a healthy lifestyle is necessary in order for us to have a prolonged healthy natural life, then it makes perfect sense to also agree that it as necessary for us to live a sinless heathy spiritual lifestyle in order to have eternal life. And if our real being is the spirit man, it makes no sense whatsoever to concentrate only on just taking care of the outer flesh, which will eventually dissolve back to dust no matter how well we take care of it.
Feeding the outward man with such things that we consider healthy and allowing the spirit man, which is our main being to wither away through feeding on sinful junk is clearly not a wise thing for us to do. We need to ensure that we keep our spirit man mind, soul, body and heart in good shape, by feeding it daily with heavenly Manna, which is the undiluted Word of God. We also need to engage in a daily fellowship of mind renewing exercise with God so, that we can be in righteous alignment with His Holy Spirit.
As spiritual human beings, our main focus is meant to be on ensuring that we look good spiritually in line with God's own good looks standards and not just on achieving the defined human society outward 'good looks' appearance. Looking physically ‘good’ in line with society norm does not mean that a person looks good spiritually or that, he or she is in perfect spiritual good shape. A person who is spiritually out of shape will be continually dissatisfied with his or her outward appearance no matter how gorgeous looking others might consider his or her outward appearance to be. The only way of overcoming the futile endless obsessions of trying to fix our outward appearance and becoming satisfied with our total look, is by seeing the presence of God in us when we look in the mirror. The mirror is a spiritual object and it does not lie. A person that is outside of the Holy Spirit of God can never be satisfied with the spiritual picture the mirror will keep beaming on his or her face irrespective of how physically good looking such person might appear to the ordinary eyes.
Feeling good in the real sense starts with us looking good in the spiritual sense. When we look good in the spirit, we will by all means continue to look outwardly radiant no matter the outward appearance of things. God as a God of real beauty does not do cosmetics surgery. God affords us His beautiful standards by saving our souls through Christ from the ugliness of sins when we repent and invite Christ into our lives to be our personal LORD and Saviour. And once we are in Christ, God as the Holy Spirit keeps us beautiful daily and enables us by His special grace to live and maintain a good spiritual lifestyle through:
- Daily nurturing our souls with His nutritious Word
- Guiding us to follow the right physical diets for the perfect maintenance of our physical and mental well being
- Empowering us by His daily grace to live a disciplined sin free lifestyle to ensure we remain free from spiritual sinful contamination.
Looking good physically is not the key to achieving true spiritual rest, satisfaction and joy. Our only means of having inner joy and becoming fully satisfied with our looks is if the Holy Spirit of God indwells in us. It is only by His presence in us that we will continually feel good regardless of outward appearance. God's supernatural presence in us is all we need to remain strong and beautifully radiant no matter how challenging the natural situation we could possibly find ourselves in. Therefore, it is essential that you habitually engage yourself daily in holy exercise with God who is goodness itself through riotous worship, praise, fellowship and by feeding on His Word of life. It is only by your daily spiritual walk with Him, that you will genuinely look and feel good inwardly and outwardly, remain genuinely radiantly beautiful in His glorious presence, be of a good cheer and fully contented with the image of your spirit man that, the mirror invisibly projects to your spiritual eyes each time you look in the mirror.
Psalms 90:14-17
"O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us, and the years wherein we have seen evil.
Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children.
And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it."
